The Malcolm Blight Goal

The Malcolm Blight Goal

Malcolm Blight was an AFL player who played for the North Melbourne Football Club between 1974-82. He won a Brownlow medal and kicked 100 goals in a season. Blight coached Geelong and North Melbourne. He also coached Adelaide to two premierships.

In 1976 Blight kicked one of the most famous goals of all time. He was playing for North Melbourne and they were playing Carlton. He had already kicked two goals in overtime and North Melbourne were trailing by one point. Malcolm then marked the ball eighty metres out and the siren went. Blight went back and unleashed one of the best torpedoes ever seen. It sailed straight through the big sticks. North Melbourne won by five points.
